Health Care for Those in Need

View pictures of this project

Serving Hands International focuses its health-care efforts in Tijuana, Mexico, a city of 1.4 million with a critical scarcity of doctors and nurses. Infants there die at three times the rate of U.S. babies born a few miles to the north. In a city where average citizens receive inadequate health care, the impoverished are in a crisis situation.

We provide funds for medicine, medical supplies and food to the facilities that render care to the destitute. Those facilities include the Tijuana Red Cross, the San Francis Hospital, the Sacred Heart Hospital, the San Eugenio Community Clinic, the Esperanza Clinic, and the City of Mercy. In addition, we attempt to meet critical requests involving medical problems beyond the expertise of the charitable facilities.  We also provide funds to the Mercy Clinic in San Diego.

Last year, our contribution to health care was over $136,000. As the population grows in Tijuana so does the number of those needing medical care. The following budget projects an expenditure of  $140,400 for the current year 2004.

You Can Help
The U.S. Health and Human Services believes that Tijuana and other border towns are in "double jeopardy" in that "they are both medically underserved and poor."* Your contribution aids the poor and the struggling charitable health facilities that serve them.

Donors may be assured that 100% of their donation, along with a dollar for dollar match (up to a total of $1.5 million annually) is used solely for charitable projects. The organization's administration and overhead are covered by a separate Foundation.
